Installation

In the Box

A standard SL Optic shipment includes:

  • SL Optic unit (with mounting bracket pre-attached)
  • 2× external power supply units with connecting cables
  • Mounting hardware kit

SFP modules are not included — order them separately before installation. See Supported SFP Modules for the list of supported modules and selection guidance.

Tip

Keep the original packaging. It is the safest way to ship the unit if it ever needs to be returned for service.

Before You Start

Inspect the unit and all accessories for shipping damage before installation. If anything is missing or damaged, contact Stream Labs support with your order number, a description of the issue, and photos if applicable.

Mounting

Desktop or Shelf

Remove the mounting bracket if not installing in a rack — it is pre-attached but not needed for flat-surface placement. Ensure at least 50 mm of clearance on all sides for ventilation.

19" Rack

Use the 19" mounting bracket included in the hardware kit. For the 1U 3-in-1U chassis, slide up to three units into the chassis slots and secure according to the chassis instructions.

Note

SL Optic does not require forced cooling. Passive convection is sufficient under normal operating conditions (+5°C to +40°C ambient). Do not block the side vents.

Connecting the Signals

SDI Connections

Connect SDI sources and destinations to the BNC 1–4 ports on the front panel using 75 Ω coaxial cable.

Before connecting, set each channel's direction using the SDI MODE DIP switches — see Channel Configuration. The direction must match the intended signal flow.

Optical Connections

Insert SFP modules into the SFP 1/2 and SFP 3/4 slots on the front panel. Modules are hot-swappable — the device does not need to be powered off for insertion or removal.

Connect fiber patch cables to the SFP modules. Ensure fiber type, connector type, and wavelength match the module specification.

See Supported SFP Modules for module selection guidance and the verified compatibility list.

Optical safety

Never look directly into an optical fiber connector or SFP transceiver port. Infrared laser radiation is invisible and can cause permanent eye damage.

Power

SL Optic uses two external power supply units. Each PSU has an IEC C14 inlet on the wall side (accepts a standard C13 power cord) and a round locking connector on the cable that plugs into the rear panel of the device.

Connect both PSU cables to the PWR A and PWR B ports on the rear panel. For redundancy, connect each supply to a separate circuit or UPS.

Powering On

SL Optic has no power button. The device starts immediately when power is applied to either supply.

Indicators after successful power-on:

  • PWR LED on the front panel glows green
  • The display activates and briefly shows Screen 2 (channel direction overview) before switching to Screen 1 (SDI channel status)

If the PWR LED does not light, check that the PSU cables are firmly connected at both ends. The device will also run on a single supply if one fails, but redundancy is lost.
